Some times, probably far too often, we don't really know people we see every single weekday... people we may actually spend hours with, at least in the same space, if not in any meaningful conversation.

Pat Schmidt Davis shared both time and space with us, as a member of the Landon Class of 1963.  Personally, I only became real friends with Pat in a meaningful way, on Facebook, beginning in 2019.  At the time, she was living in The Villages, in north-central Florida.  Her husband had previously died, but I believe he and Pat moved to The Villages together.

According to her Facebook profile, Pat attended Duke University after graduating from Landon, and she worked for General Electric Finance.  Of course, those are just plateaus on the journey through life, even though each plateau we reach can have profound ramifications on the potential for future plateaus and on future directions we may take.  The person I came to know beginning in 2019 was kind, thoughtful, insightful, quietly profound and quietly funny.  She was a person of sincere faith and, I believe, a genuine caring soul.

Apparently, some time in 2019 or early in 2020, she moved back to Jacksonville and she was living at the Riverton Towers in Arlington.  According to a friend of hers, Pat had developed -- or was diagnosed with -- cancer in the last few months.  It had become (or already was) severe by April of this year, and her health declined during the last six months, until she finally crossed over on July 6th.  I believe family & friends, and more than a few dogs, were waiting for Pat on the other side, with a warm embrace.

I also believe that if more people still living were like the sincere, gentle soul I came to know, this would be a far better world for everyone and everything in it.  Pat, may your journey ahead be one continuous, soft, rolling plateau after another.  Keep a light on, for those of us who follow !

Lee

Lee's comments are so very well said.  I remember Pat all the way back to grade school.  I don't think I've seen her since our high school years but I remember Pat as being decent, respectful of others and never was there any trouble or drama about her.  So, rest in peace Pat and know you represented what is good.
